politics politics…

September 15, 2008

Okay, first, be inspired by these women writing and sharing their thoughts about Sarah Palin: http://womenagainstsarahpalin.blogspot.com/

Then, take a look at McCain’s closest advisors (and keep in mind that Obama has not accepted any money from federal lobbyists):http://mclobbyist.com/

Next, do a little browsing on the weekly war scorecard (I can’t even believe how much money we’re spending on this war and how many people have died and been injured): http://journals.democraticunderground.com/zulchzulu/256

And review the recent polling numbers: http://www.pollster.com/

Come on, people. We need to work together to educate and spread the message that Obama is the candidate who has real plans to get our country headed in the right direction for our economy, education, healthcare, energy, and so much more: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

Finally, find the nearest Obama office and get out there and get to work! http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/mnoffices

YES WE CAN!!! FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!

places to meet boys?

August 24, 2008

Okay, so I’m single. And I have a couple of single friends.

Well, one of them and I were sitting around the other night trying to come up with some new ideas on how to meet boys. And we made a list on a napkin. Which is sort of the idea behind the title of this blog. So… I’m going to share them here. And then if any of them actually work, it’ll be like, I don’t know… we can take credit for it or something!

Here goes.

1. Events and Adventures

2. Bull riding / Line dancing

3. Match.com

4. Singles bars / speed dating

5. Sporting events / rec sports

6. Gym

7. Jazz / live music

8. Church

9. Windsurfing

10. ’80’s clubs

11. Bicycle club

They are no particular order except the order in which they occurred to us. And some are definitely better than others. (singles bars? yeesh!) Anyway… dear universe, now it’s out there. So, help us out!!!

Happy dating everyone. And if anyone has other ideas, we’d love to hear them. :)

pandora

April 21, 2008

Has everyone found pandora yet? I love it. You can create your own radio stations and they customize it according to thumbs-up and thumbs-down ratings you give the music. And you can have multiple stations and even a “QuickMix” if you feel like throwing it all together. So I am hearing Fatboy Slim, Brahms, Willie Nelson, Helen Forrest, and Metallica all in the same hour. And it’s great. Check it out if you haven’t done so yet.

sexy housecoat

June 16, 2007

…or is that an oxymoron? we went to garage sales all day today and it was quite enjoyable, i must say. my favorite purchase was an old lady housecoat which i absolutely love. it’s short-sleeved with snaps up the front. it’s got large roses in all shades of pink on a white background for the fabulous price of one dollar! incredible. i’m wearing it right now. dlr was a little taken aback by how much i liked it (reminded him of SNL’s Mrs. Lubner or Loopner [sp?]), but i think it’ll grow on him.

we also found two sofa pillows (even though we’re currently without a sofa) and a nice throw blanket, a “horsey” picture for the wall, a long-sleeved dress shirt for dlr, a tall heavy glass vase that will require us to find some wonderful flowers to fill it with, a gorgeous photo book of Tuscany (favorite purchase of dlr), a bartender’s manual (which might be useless – we noticed it doesn’t even include the recipe for a mojito – dang!), a fun pair of pink heels with brown trim, white sandals, a faded Hard Rock cafe t-shirt from Cancun, a belt/tie hanger, and a bunch of cute clothes for my great-nieces which may be too big for them but we’ll see. can you believe we spent only fourteen dollars total for everything??

another highlight of the day was stopping at the Scandia Bakery where we got a cardamom pretzel and a bear claw. Mmmmmm!!!

the Strib has a great new interactive garage sales feature where you can search for whatever kind of sales you want (location, dates, keyword, etc.) and then get directions from one to the next to the next til the end. we used it today and it worked like a charm.

fake nails

January 21, 2007

we went to a ball on saturday night – and i got caught up in the moment and actually bought fake nails for the occasion… even though i rarely even paint or file my nails or anything. so, long story short is i ran out of time and did not even put the nails on for the ball, if you can believe that!

today is sunday and we went out of town this morning. when we got back this afternoon, i had to try them out. i’ve had them on for a couple of hours now, and dlr has admitted that he finds them sexy and it is kind of fun to have them on and feel a little sexier too, even though they are completely impractical and it’s making it hard to type and how the hell do people go through life with these things on?

i’m wondering if i should leave them on and try going to work with them tomorrow or if i should take them off tonight. i’m concerned about going to the bathroom and zipping up my coat and all the regular activities of daily life – but i am also not ready for the magic to end!

puerta azul

January 19, 2007

tonight we went to a Puerto Rican restaurant in Saint Paul and let me just say the food was very very good. we shared yuca con sofrito and tostones for appetizers – then dlr ordered pernil asado and i had the pollo con salsa de mango. everything was fresh and delicious. we will definitely be going back.

garlic

January 11, 2007

i really don’t know how vampires could be endangered by the smell of garlic. dlr is cooking some sauce for pasta with tomatoes and onions and yes, GARLIC! and it smells delicious. i can hardly wait for it to be ready. he’s also melted some butter with garlic and spread that over a sliced baguette which is toasting nicely in the oven. it doesn’t hurt that i’m drinking some wine — a pinot noir — which normally i think is kind of snobby but tonight i don’t mind.

i believe that garlic is healthy and beneficial and inspiring. and some claim that it has antibiotic properties — who am i to resist? according to Wikipedia, there are all sorts of superstitions surrounding garlic…

Garlic has been seen as a force for both good and evil. A Christian myth says that after Satan left the Garden of Eden, garlic arose in his left footprint, and onion in the right.[19] Even in Europe, though, many cultures have turned to garlic as a protective force or white magic, perhaps because of its reputation as a powerful preventative medicine.[20] Central European folk beliefs considered garlic a powerful ward against devils, werewolves, and vampires.[20] To ward off vampires, garlic could be worn on one’s person, hung in windows, or rubbed on chimneys and keyholes.[21]

and i have to doubt the Christian myth mentioned above, because wasn’t Satan in the Garden of Eden in the form of a serpent? how could a serpent have footprints? i like to imagine the protective forces as being real though, especially when i’m immersed in the scent and the absolute essence of garlic… Mmm… yeah. dinner is ready.

mojitos, baby!

January 9, 2007

tonight dlr made me a fabulously refreshing mojito. mojitos consist of fresh mint muddled with sugar and a little club soda plus lots of rum and limes. yummy! if you haven’t had one, i highly recommend it. they can be made poorly, but when they’re done right, it’s like nothing else. Mmmmm.

there’s an episode of Family Guy where Brian says, “mo-HEE-toe” and the way he says it kind of sticks in your head. kind of like that damn Empire commercial – “800-588-2300 – Empire (today)!” you’re singing it right now, aren’t you? admit it, i know you are. unless you’re not from around here and you’ve never heard it before. then you’re thinking, what the hell are you talking about? yeah. one of those two.

just go drink a mojito! you won’t regret it. i’m going to bed.
